What are the Principals of Art?
The Principals of Art are the ways an artist uses the Elements of Art to create more complex and visually pleasing photo.
Different Principals of Art
- Balance: When a photo is arranged in a certain way so the photo is symmetrical, and balanced on all sides. All sides of the photo from one to another have some sort of equality. There are three different balance types:
b) Asymmetrical balance- When the elements of the photo seem like its evenly symmetrical on both sides, but the weight is slightly different on each side. Asymmetrical balance is a good way to use contrast with shapes and colors.
c) Radial balance- When the elements of the photo surround a focal point in a way that looks as if it is being surrounded or leading up to the focal point , and its as if they're radiating from the focal point
2. Contrast: When two or more opposite elements work together to create a cohesive image with the differences of each element complimenting one another. contrast can be shown through size, color, and texture
3. Emphasis: When the artist creates a point in the image that is visually dominant and stands out from the background, and has a very defined focal point.
4. Movement: When the photo looks as if a part of it is moving and or keeps the eye moving throughout the image.
5. Repetition: A repeating element within the image to create a rhythm throughout the photo
6. Variety: When many different elements are put together to increase visual interest.
7. Unity: When all elements work together and every element has a role to compliment another
